SD90 FWD sequential shift gearbox - A durable, high torque gearbox

Proven reliability and winning performance, the SD gearboxes offer you the best!

Rigid casing

Excellent life time

Casing from a billet of air craft quality aluminium combines minimum weight with superior mechanical, dimensional and thermal stability.

High quality precision ground gears gives excellent life time of gearbox with minimum maintenance.

Simple maintenance

Smooth gear change helps to drive faster

Maintenance is very simple as the layout allow for the complete gear set to be removed from the car in just a few minutes.

The SD gearboxes for front wheel drive cars have a very consistent, smooth and reliable shift mechanism, and consequently dog ring life is exceptionally good. The efficient gear shift will help you drive faster.

The Tractive Modular Concept

The modular concept of the Tractive sequential gearboxes is successfully being used since 1995. It makes is possible to offer premium quality gearboxes with top class performance and functionality to a competitive price.

Due to its modular design, the Tractive SD90 can be adapted to virtually any engine / car combination without need for new patterns or extensive redesign.

SD90 is used in front wheel drive cars. Different versions of the SD90 gearbox fit very different cars. Many competitive FWD cars now rely on the superior reliability of the SD90 gearbox.

The SD90 gearbox comes with Tractive's proven differential.

Swedish Championship winners use the Tractive SD90 gearbox! Tobias Söderqvist won the 2WD Swedish Rally Championship in 2015. Second runner up and champion in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2014 was Leif Peterson: “I have used the Tractive SD905 gearbox for many years now, first in my Golf and later in my two Toyota Corollas. Its reliability and the diff characteristics contributed greatly to the success we have achieved, this year and in the past”.

Technical Data

  SD905 SD906
Number of speeds: 5 forward,
1 reverse
6 forward,
1 reverse
Gear positions: R-0-1-2-3-4-5 R-0-1-2-3-4-5-6
Recommended max engine torque:

13,5mm gears = 350 Nm

17mm gears = 400 Nm

Weight:  45.5 kg   46.0 kg (depending on type of car)
Housing design: A symmetric design ensures thermal stability and a uniform deflection of the housing during high loads. A natural and favourable load path is designed into the gearbox layout.
All parts are machined from high tensile air craft quality aluminium. No castings are used whatsoever.
Clutch shaft: A separate clutch shaft drives the input shaft via a splined coupling. Different lengths and spline configurations are possible. The standard Ford 1”-23 spline is preferred for a shorter lead time, while we certainly can make any type of spline to any type of clutch.
Clutch release mechanism: Hydrulic, integrated in the gearbox.
Clutch rings (dogrings): Tractive standard with 90 mm O.D. with radiused corners for long lifge and superb durability.

Cockpit Gear Lever: Tractive sequential shift gear lever with return springs.
Connection between gear lever and gearbox: Through a steel tube from the gear lever to gearbox.
Reverse gear engagement: With clutch ring shared with 1:st gear. Note! No sliding gears, no chips or swarf in the gearbox.
Reverse gear release mechanism: A separate lever on the gear lever must be operated to release engagement of neutral and reverse gear.
Gear wheel width: 17 or 13.5 for all forward gears.
Ratios: See Ratio Charts.
Gear selection mechanism: Sequential shift mechanism extensivley developed by Tractive.
Bearings: SKF cylindrical roller bearings for input and output shafts. Ball bearings for selector drums.
Bearings in clutch gears: INA cage type needle roller bearings.
Lubrication Wet sump. Please use Omega 690 or minimum a GL5 specification transmission oil.
Seals: Nitril as standard or Vition alternatively PTFE-lipped low friction seals on request.
Shot peening: All gears and dogrings are dual shot peened.
Surface treatment of casing: All parts making up the casing are anodized in black colour using the Comptcote process.
